Boxing day was filled with play. I played trains with Daniel, his new farmer bingo game, raced cars with Alex, painted with Daniel whilst Vio and Alex played chess, backgammon and connect 4! We had leftovers for lunch then headed to the zoo for the afternoon. We saw so much, and Alex always stops to tell random people the facts he knows (it can get embarrassing as he interrupts or they try and ignore him!) But he remembers so much from the Wild Kratts show, including the episode titles! The pygmy hippos were awesome, we saw the mum and baby swim up close to the glass. Then we took vio to see the new lions enclosure – the kids played in the crocodile nest water area and got soaked! They had a ball 🙂
At home Vio and Alex played lightsaber battles and I played on the trampoline with Daniel. Alex was pretty happy to get his double lightsaber for Christmas – he has been asking for one for a long time but could never save enough pocket money.
We had a play date with friends the next morning. I got into trouble with Alex for taking his new scooter instead of his bike 🙁 He had a few issues with his friends that day. His interests are different, because they are his and not influenced by peers. And so inevitably the other kids exclude him or talk about things of which he has no knowledge. I’m ok with that, it’s certainly NOT a reason to send him to school! It’s hard to watch and time will tell if these friendships are worth keeping.
Afterwards was the family christmas lunch with Vio’s sister, who had gone away for christmas. Alex went along with all askings of Santa, to my surprise. The kids had fun as always and ate loads of pizza. At home we watched Clone Wars (we’re really getting into star wars, though rebels was Alex’s favourite). Alex played with his goal keeping gloves in the backyard with Vio, he seems to really like being a keeper! Daniel kept himself happy in the sandpit.
I had a meeting with co-op parents which went really well, though of course many of them like to chat and I am strictly business – wanting to get home to Vio and the kids! The group is really nice and I’m quite positive about the coming year. When I got home and Daniel was sleeping, Alex was blowing up balloons and I remembered a science thing on pressure and so grabbed a few plastic 1 litre bottles. I put the balloon inside and Alex tried but could not blow it up. in the other bottle we made a small hole and this time he could blow up the balloon. So we decided to play a trick on Vio and took both balloons in bottles to him, Alex had the one with a hole in of course, and challenged him to fill the bottle with the balloon. Alex did it easily and Vio couldn’t of course, this caused Alex much amusement!
Late int he night, Alex brought up Zorro the wedge tailed eagle and decided he’d like to have a picture of him. So I found a colouring page and we found a photo and tried to replicate the colours. Alex told us how it was the top of its food chain and then stuck it above his snake picture, as if in attack.
