Unschooling

Home time

I had organised a homeschool excursion to Animal Land. Alex wasn’t keen to go, but I explained to him that I had made a commitment and I wished to uphold it as I think integrity is important. I apologised for not discussing it with him, and we agreed that I would consult him before I book anything in the future – and I have done so since. However, in the end he had a great time. The other kids were his age and he of course loves to see the farm again.

At Alex’s request we’ve spent a lot of time at home and I’ve come to enjoy it. I  made the kids some playdough, and then Alex asked for one of those play dough factories. So I bought one and they’ve played with it heaps! Daniel loves it too, he says he’s making snakes. One of Daniel’s birthday gifts was outdoor chalk. We have loved the stuff in the past. On one particular day we covered the undercover area outside with a tree complete with fruit and snake! Reticulated python of course.

I bought Uno to play with Alex but he said it was boring, so we ditched it! I did show Alex how to play noughts and crosses with the chalk outside and he has loved it and asks to play often. So sometimes we play outside and others on a little whiteboard that we have.

Daniel also got some paints for his birthday and asks to paint a lot. He even told me about a picture he was making! I mentioned to Alex that our art wall still has old pictures on it and so he decided to upgrade an old aeroplane drawing.

Alex has watched a lot of transformers on his iPad, and also youtube clips of people demonstrating transformer toys! He’s also been pretend playing transformers with his other toys, especially cars. I think he’d really like some transformer toys. He has a few only.

We returned to our homeschool park day briefly. Daniel and I weren’t feeling great, but mostly I wanted Alex to have an enjoyable shorter play time rather than push him past his limits and leave on a low note. Unfortunately the next 3 days saw us all quite sick! There was lots of sleeping and screens, including a Star wars rebels marathon!
