Unschooling

Easter weekend 2016

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOf course, Easter was filled with family and food. But not much chocolate. The kids received some eggs, but barely touched them and so they ended up in my tummy! I gave them a sewing craft to have a go at, and Alex really embraced his. He did it mostly by himself and even finished it. I did Daniel’s for him as it was a bit fiddly for his fingers, and he wasn’t interested! I found it quite relaxing!

We had a quiet few days, with some play outside and bike rides or scooters to the park. Daniel has been interested in making campfires with rocks and sticks. Alex and Vio went to the movies to see Zootopia with Alex’s cousin and Aunt. We saw lots of sulphur crested cockatoos around and Alex collected enough feathers to make a brand new bird i think!

Alex has enjoyed chess both on the iPad and with me, playing a new game where you are a snake and have to survive the habitat. We’ve also started 26 storey treehouse.

For Easter Monday I took the kids to Eltham miniature railway to meet some homeschool friends. Alex was happy to see his friend, and they played well together until after the first train ride.the playground was quite busy, and most usable equipment required waiting your turn. So when the kids got on the basket swing, they were nagged by other kids and adults to get off and finish their turn, and other nonsense ideas about sharing. So we went for another train ride and the kids played and ran in the field but were still noticeably irritated. So I brought them home and they helped Vio in the garden with the chicken coop before relaxing in front of the TV for the evening.

On to school holidays….
