Unschooling

The longest snake to date

Alex got a haircut. Since his last haircut, he’s been quite aware and interested in his appearance and he often asks Vio to ‘make his hair’ or he combs it whilst looking in the mirror after a bath or shower.

That night we had the zoo christmas party, we were really looking forward to it as we love the zoo. Whilst in line, the mother of the family behind us was occupying her children with tests. It was amusing as Alex was answering some questions, and given he is not subject to schooling, teaching or questioning and he was younger than the other kids,he gave the questions a good go and got some right! He has no sense of privacy. The zoo was very, very busy and I’m sorry to say disappointing! Alex went on the carousel we had a picnic, lined up for an absolute age for the train, had ice-cream, watched some performances and went on the teacups ride which Daniel loved. My highlight was watching Alex dance. There was a snow machine too.

We went swimming with a friend on Monday, it was free! Nice surprise for us! Alex was practising swimming with his arms whilst using a kickboard. I noticed that there was an intensive swimming program being held over the holidays and mentioned it to Alex and he asked to do it. He likes to swim underwater and is quite strong, but lacking in technique understandably. For the rest of the day we watched some TV, Alex went to karate and also played the chess game on his iPad.

For co-op this week, we brought chalk for drawing and play dough. Alex spent a lot of time drawing a snake, he wanted it to be 1km. He managed to draw the longest snake yet, but it was more like 100m. We like to have a bit of down time after all the socialising, so as Daniel slept I sat with Alex and we watched Battle Force 5. In the evening we put the sprinkler out on the grass for the kids to play in and they rode their bikes outside. So nice to have light, pleasant evenings.
