Christmas trees and camping!

We woke up to find the canaries had gotten out. So I decided to get the tree out a few days early for decorating. I like to do it on December 1st usually. So Alex was really keen, he’s been asking me for a few weeks already! Daniel just wants to be involved. so we all put the tree up and decorated it. I was surprised that both kids made it through the whole process – last year Alex told me to finish it myself!

After watching some Wild Kratts and bouncing on the trampoline, we took a walk to the shops. Alex didn’t want to walk so i suggested we counted our steps! He was happy with that idea and we guessed and estimated and discovered it was something like 750 steps to the shop. We stopped at the park briefly but it started to rain! Last time this happened it rained over 30mm so we didn’t risk waiting it out and hiked it home. That night we spent packing for our camping trip the next day. Alex has been counting down the days for weeks and weeks.

Alex was taking bites out of his chips in fractions and we divided some up and talked about eighths. he knows about halves and quarters but mentioned half of a quarter so I named it. We did some chip fractions! Daniel was really responsive to the warm up at gymnastics this week. He’s previously held onto me until the warm up is done and joined in with the activity circus.

The campsite in Anglesea was fantastic! It was right next to the beach and river so not much driving was required. The weather was cool, but adequate. Alex spent lots of time on the bouncing pillow the first evening and found some kids to play with. Bedtime was a disaster!

In the morning after grabbing some supplies, we went for a walk to check out the beach. I ended up running back to the tent for wetsuits and beach toys. The kids had so much fun. the water was cold and rough. Daniel enjoyed playing chase with the waves whilst Vio dragged Alex along on his boogie board. The sand toys stayed in the bag! We were there for a while, but it was cold for the kids so we headed back. Alex had hounded us about using the pool ever since we arrived so I took them in since they were wet and dressed for it anyway. We both swam a few laps – the water was nice and warm 🙂

After lunch we walked to a park up the river. The park had a shipwreck buried in the sand. We played hide and seek and used the play equipment before heading back along the river. Daniel fell asleep on my back. Alex and Vio tried to hire a go-kart but none were left. Alex and I saw a sulphur crested cockatoo near our tent and got very close to it, then followed it around the camping grounds. Vio took Alex to the jumping pillow. Unfortunately there was an incident with another family and we decided to come home early . Alex was very, very upset.
