So, Daniel is saying some more words. The really important ones – mine, no, up, more. He’s been really effective at communicating otherwise. I’m expecting his language to really explode as he turns 2. It’ll hopefully help the kids play together more successfully! They do have some really good moments, but of course Alex isn’t patient enough to talk to Daniel about what he wants and needs.
Since we’ve been on our unschooling journey, I’m conscious about spending time at home so the kids can play. The great part about no school means time is ours to do with as we wish. I don’t want to compromise it by adding multiple activities and play dates. In fact I’m quite happy to have only a couple of play dates each week, and I don’t like to have them on our adventures/outings too often. The kids are not at an age yet where they require a lot of socialising. I may as well make the most of them having high demands on my company. So what do we do at home?

Alex spent pocket money on a marble run. We actually went to buy Baymax but he didn’t have enough. I suggested saving but he searched for something that fell into his budget! At first we set up the marble run per instructions. But after Daniel broke it up Alex got creative and made, well, something long!!!
Alex had spent many consecutive hours on his iPad earlier this week. I kept returning to him and asking what he’d liek to do and made suggestions. I eventually got him to play with us, but he was very unsettled. After some investigation, it turns out he’s been using the iPad because he is bored. We’ve put the iPad out of view for now so that he doesn’t just head straight to it when I’m distracted. I’d really like him to do more things with me and not just me play with him. But he seems to need my suggestions. If he asks for the iPad, I do not intend to deny him any more than I would deny a book or game
On Friday we headed to the park for some chips as our lunch date got cancelled. We had fun playing. Alex is swinging solo and was busy testing his height limits. We then headed to our first gymnastics session which was fantastic. Alex really enjoyed it, and my concerns about him being more interested in the other kids were unfounded. he spent much of the time working on his moves. They were kept occupied for the whole hour.
Friday evening, Vio headed out and so I spent some time watching Iron Man on TV with Alex. Afterwards we did the activities in the books I’d gotten for the kids a week ago. He seemed to like the mazes the best and it was interesting to watch him solve it. He had no desire to do any colouring! A shame since most of the book is colouring pages! And to top it off, he asked to go to bed so that he would wake early for football. He was really excited to have his Dad be coach 🙂
