For Christmas, Alex got some lego. He has not been much of a builder with his duplo, except for making towers as high as he could before they fell. A lot of the lego comes in kits – he already has one of a police truck, but I thought I’d just buy a cube with mixed pieces for a bit of creativity. But I thought Alex needed inspiration, so first up we watched the lego movie. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from it, but it was actually REALLY good! I thought that it was a very clever idea, having the parent’s collection be a ‘display only’ set up hat was threatened with permanency with glue. It has actually made me relax a bit more with the lego, to allow more fun and creativity beyond keeping each set separate. After watching the movie, Alex asked to make a spaceship. He was linking in his ideas from planes, talking about the wing size needing to be bigger because of how long the spaceship was. He then spent a long time playing with his creation, including taking it to the park the next day (which makes me very nervous!)
Brickvention is a lego expo that I think has been held yearly. Vio took Alex along. They spent over 2 hours looking around, most notably at train sets and Alex came out with a new set that he bought with some birthday money.
Here are a few of the creations since the expo.
